World’s largest land oil rig, Elk City, OK
This oil rig was used to dig wells for several underground nuclear tests by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission throughout rural New Mexico and Colorado in the 1960s. The idea of nuclear fracking was soon abandoned and replaced by hydraulic fracking.

Another image that I recently rediscovered in my archive that is speaking to me.
Since I’ve committed to scanning and printing digitally this series I’m able to use images that had issues I was never happy with. This particular image had a distracting amount of lens distortion and a few creases in the negative.
I’ve been back to looking at this series again. Images I passed over before look more interesting on review. My work often takes many years to unfold.

Had a wonderful week in Minnesota, but am excited to get back to AZ to make more images at this wild place.
