World’s largest land oil rig, Elk City, OK

This oil rig was used to dig wells for several underground nuclear tests by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission throughout rural New Mexico and Colorado in the 1960s. The idea of nuclear fracking was soon abandoned and replaced by hydraulic fracking.
